Random thoughts for a Monday morning

Friday night, I was hanging out with a few friends, and we started asking some 'Would You Rather' questions. Last night, as I laid in bed, not able to sleep, I couldn't help but ponder one of the questions:

Would you rather link little fingers with someone for a whole year, 24 hours a day for a million dollars or continue life as it is?

I choose that I would link little fingers with someone [assuming that you get to pick who it is] for a million bucks. I know a million bucks doesn't get you as much as it use to, but a million bucks would sure be nice to have!

And then the potential problems that I though about as I was trying to fall asleep last night:
-it might be easier if I were linked to someone who was a lefty. Like Jessica. Or my Dad. OR.... it would force me practice writing with my left hand, and I could become ambidextrous, which is one of my life goals.
-sleeping might be a problem. We would both have to sleep on our backs. Or on our stomachs. But curling up, or other sleeping positions may create an obstacle.
-linking fingers would create one of the worse pinky-finger cramps imaginable! And what about when you are sleeping - as your fingers relaxed, they would un-link. Solution to this problem: tape your fingers together instead.
-typing would take some getting use to if you didn't have use of one of your little fingers.
-you would really, really get to know someone if you were with them 24-7. For an entire year. And there would be no 'Emily' time. I'm not sure that I could handle that!
-driving. The same person would always have to drive, which is fine. But how would you get into the car? Both climb in the same door?
There were other things that I pondered late last night, but this is all I can remember for now. But the more I think about it, the more I think that the million dollars might not be worth it!

To everyone who is reading this, I ask the question: which would you pick? And why?

i was having really weird thoughts last night too, that had to do with things that everyone forgot but for some reason they started to come back to me, and something like collective memory or mind reading, and it was weird.

that place between sleeping and awake is so odd.

i dont suggest linking pinkys with me, as much as i like you. those seizures can be painful :)

Good question! I don't know... I think missionaries feel like they're attached at the pinky for 1.5 / 2 years, and they don't get a dime for it. So I bet I could totally do 1 year for a million.

Also, you have to think about how you can maximize your profit. Because in addition to your initial million, and any money you make from investing it, you can also capitalize off the fame of being "the girl linked by her pinky." There will be endorsement deals to consider. You could write a tell-all memoir about your experience. The book will be made into a movie. Or you could go the reality tv route. So many options...

"Would You Rather" is the best game! At our last ESL meeting, one of the teachers had just bought a box of "Would You Rather" cards to play in her classroom. After a big debate between the three of us about whether you'd rather leave a trail of slime or a trail of smoke everywhere you go, the meeting completely dissolved into laughter so intense, there were tears. Fantastic. :)

Wow I love it. So I think i have developed a slight case of insomnia because I lay awake at night and think of really strange things like that. But to answer your question, I think I would consider it if it were justin, but it really would get old after a while. And how would I scrapbook? But I agree with you, that I make a good person to be linked to since I am a lefty. It would make a lot of things like eating and writing a whole lot easier.

1. I agree with Emma. Way too much time on your hands. I mean, I leave for a weekend and I come back and you've spent the whole time thinking about pinky-attachment?! j/k

2. Kristine--are you sure you're not a closet-accountant? I love your thoughts on capitalizing on the fame and other thoughts of maximizing profit!

3. I have no idea if I would do this. Do I have a choice of who I got to be attached to or is it like 2 random people respond to an ad on craiglist to try the experiment?!? I would definitely want to screen their personal hygiene habits before agreeing to be attached to their pinky for 8760 hours.

So, I kinda brought this up at dinner with the missionaries tonight... And they agreed that it would be easy after serving a mission. :)

And, Diana, let's just say that you wouldn't be the first person to accuse me of being a secret math nerd. I probably should have gone into a more math-y career. But, ya know, I chose teaching for the money and prestige. :)

The idea is awesome but the physiological and anatomical challenges are just too big to overcome. How about we just be together every day all year and not link pinkies! I could definitely get used to that!
